It is also commonly abbreviated as (). The university is one of the Project 211 universities in People's Republic of China. ==History== Guangxi University was established in October 1928. Its first president was the celebrated scientist and educator Ma Junwu. In 1936, Guangxi University was molded into a comprehensive university with disciplines in the liberal arts, sciences, engineering, agriculture and medicine. In 1939, Guangxi University developed into a national university and by 1949 it expanded into one with 5 colleges and 22 departments. In 1952, Mao Zedong inscribed the name for the university. His calligraphy is still in use today. In 1952, College of Agriculture became independent as Guangxi Agricultural College.
